
The African American Library at the Gregory School
The Grand Opening took place, November 14, 2009. The project is complete and HPL is currently seeking LEED™ Gold Level Certification with teh US Green Building Council.

Julia Ideson Building Renovation,
New Archival Wing
and Reading Garden
Construction on the new archival wing and reading garden (first phase) is complete and opened to the public on April 5, 2010. The second phase (renovation) is underway and is expected to be complete in the summer of 2011. Bracewell Neighborhood Library
The project is complete and the building opened to the public on December 5, 2009.

Kendall Neighborhood Library + Community Center
Construction is complete and the library opened to the public on February 22, 2010.

Ring Neighborhood Library
Renovations at the Ring Neighborhood Library address the outstanding ADA compliance issues (with an accessible new entrance, renovated restrooms, flooring, furniture and signage) as well as some additional renovations funded by the Houston Public Library Foundation (including relocating the entrance and creating a meeting room). The library closed September 5, 2009 to the public and is currently under construction, with the reopening projected for October 2010.

Oak Forest Neighborhood Library
Abatement and internal demolition began in December 2009 and construction is currently underway. The project is to renovate the existing building and add an additional 4,000 square feet to the building. Expectations put the new, larger library to reopen to the public in early 2011.
Roof Replacement (Various Locations)
HPL’s Planning and Facilities Division is working on replacement of the roofs at several library locations. The Central Library’s roof and exterior waterproofing was completed at the end of 2009 while the Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library’s roof repairs should be complete by this Fall. The Clayton Genealogical Library’s roof repairs will being in fiscal year 2011 (2010-2011) and the Jungman Neighborhood Library’s roof repairs will begin in fiscal year 2012 (2011-2012).
Jesse H. Jones Central Library
The Plaza shade canopies have been installed. HPL is currently working on cleaning and repainting the parking garagee during the next few months.
Fifth Ward Neighborhood Library
HPL is pursuing a project to provide future services to the Fifth Ward community. The schedule is currently in development.
Melcher Neighborhood Library
Melcher Neighborhood Library was one of three libraries (along with Dixon and Jungman Neighborhood Libraries) targeted for renovations in order to comply with the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Melcher Neighborhood Library received new flooring and renovated restrooms, doors and signage. The library reopened to the public on June 17, 2010.
Stanaker Neighborhood Library
Preliminary design work has begun for the Stanaker Neighborhood Library. Design and bidding should be complete in early 2011, and expectations put the completion of this renovation in early 2012.
Vinson Neighborhood Library + HPL Express
Hiram Clarke Multi-Service Center
The Vinson Neighborhood Library + HPL Express opened to the public on October 19, 2010 and a Grand Opening was held for the Hiram Clarke Multi-Service Center on October 26, 2009.
Young Neighborhood Library
This project, funded by the OST/Almeda TIRZ, allows for a replacement of the Young Neighborhood Library in Palm Center with a 20,000 square foot facility in a newly chosen location across from the Palm Center. Preliminary design work has begun for this replacement facility.
