This exhibition presents a selection of 15 works from the renowned Helen Williams Drutt Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. This collection contains 640 pieces of contemporary art jewelry that push the boundaries of traditional jewelry beyond ornamentation, often begging the question, is it wearable? Does your child have reading problems? Do they struggle to physically print words and numbers? Are they often fatigued and have difficulty with depth perception? Your child might have a type of processing condition called Irlen Syndrome. Irlen Syndrome is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain's ability to process visual information. Dr. Carol Zuccone, a licensed psychologist and director of the Irlen Clinic, will discuss how this condition can be diagnosed and treated.

Children's Christmas Books from the Norman Meldrum Juvenile Collection

Enjoy an exhibit of children's books about Christmas and winter celebrations around the world and throughout history. The Exhibit includes a Victorian display, German and Swedish books, tales of the Arctic Ocean from India to Yugoslavia, Christmas carol collections, and gaudy illustrated dust jackets of the 1960s. Recruitment posters and veterans memorabilia from the Houston Metropolitan Research Center collections honor the men and women who have served our country. The display is located in the main lobby of the Julia Ideson building. Exhibit runs November 7th to January 9th.
The Treasure Collection

The Houston Metropolitan Research Center invites you to visit the Texas Room, Monday through Saturday, 9-6, to view items from our Treasure Collection, a permanent, rotating exhibit showcasing objects which have been designated as valuable. Four sacred texts are currently on display: a singing book for the use of Dominican nuns from 15th century Germany; an early Koran covered with an 18th century flowered binding, illuminated in gold and colors; a Hebrew scroll of the Book of Esther; and a Bible manuscript, written in Latin on vellum, from the 14th century, said to have been the property of King William III.
